We've just returned from a wonderful week in St. Thomas at the wonderful Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa . This was the prize I won last year from the Wyndham Hotel's Women on Their Way contest. Wyndham is targeting women business travelers and has a splendid program called ByRequest that treats you like a wonderfully valued client. It's a good example of how to build a loyal clientele.Thank you Wyndham!

 

I don't know about you, but it usually takes me at least 2 or 3 days to unwind when I go on vacation before I can get to that relaxed feeling. Over the past few years, as a coach, I have made a concerted effort to live a less frenetic life, giving myself ample rejuvenation time every week, instead of pushing myself to the edge of burnout and collapse. A happy surprise this vacation was I was able to relax immediately and enjoy the crystal clear Carribean and wonderful resort setting. Our biggest decision each day was which of the 3 restaurants to eat at and what time to play tennis. And a week on the beach was plenty of time...I was ready to get back to work! If you aren't making sure you are getting regular rejuvenation time....here's a wake up call. And don't wait until you fall over sick to relax!

 

 

Advantage Thinking: Show Me The Money!

It's not what you make...it's what you keep! April 15 makes me assess how together (or not) I have it around the whole money issue. A few actions that I have taken this year to enhance my feeling of competence this year are: 1. Writing a will. Perhaps it was the lack of reality around mortality, but we just had never gotten around to it. Both my tax advisor and financial planner asked this year about this piece. So I now have one! If you don't, please do this for your loved ones. You'll also insure that your assets go where you want them to. It probably pays to hire a lawyer to help you, but if you'd rather skip the legal advice (and fees), Nolo.com has a broad range of legal tools. You can also get software or a bookstore kit. I used a nice program called Family Lawyer 2002 which has scads of other useful forms in it as well. 2. Organizing My Papers. After reading author, Julie Morgenstern's (She wrote Time Management from the Inside Out)  great article in O Magazine, I went to the website http://www.oprah.com/omagazine/200304/omag_200304_organize.jhtml  to print some wonderfully comprehensive forms for organizing my financial records. In our family, I am the person who knows where all the IRA and retirement fund info is, where the insurance policies are and where the bank accounts are. My husband would not know where to begin to look. So I have taken Julie's advice and bought an expandable file folder to organize the info and I've made a list of where everything else is. 3. A Review of My Long Term Financial Plan I have never had a financial planner review all my investments and tell me if I am doing what I need to be able to retire when I want with enough money to outlive me! Just pulling all the information together has been a useful process. I learned that I need to reallocate and that while I have been doing an okay job at doing this myself, I am probably going to make more with some professional help and guidance. I guess I've been going the FSBO route! Time to let someone who is an expert help me out! 4. More Organizing. There's also a very informative newsletter and site called I Hate Financial Planning.
